3 Stunning Landscaping Transformations in Marquette County (Our Favorite 2025 Projects)
At Northland Greenery, every landscape tells a story. From native perennial gardens to full garden bed renovations, our goal is always the same: create landscapes that thrive in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula while enhancing the natural beauty of each property.
The 2025 season was filled with incredible projects across Marquette County and Alger County, and today we’re sharing three of our favorites. Each one highlights how thoughtful landscaping can transform a property while supporting long-term plant health and low-maintenance beauty.
If you're looking for professional landscaping in Marquette, Ishpeming, Negaunee, Gwinn, Munsing, or surrounding Upper Peninsula communities, these projects show the kind of results we strive for with every client.
1. Rock Street Refresh — A Full Garden Bed Renovation
The Rock Street Refresh project was a complete transformation of three separate garden beds. The existing beds had become tired and simply overgrown, so we redesigned them to provide structure, color, and seasonal interest throughout the year.
In total, we planted 50 new perennials, shrubs, and trees, carefully selected for their ability to thrive in the Upper Peninsula climate.
Some of the standout plant varieties included:
Lake of Fire Daylilies
Catmint
String Theory Bluestars
Boom Chocolatta Hardy Geraniums
Dancing Ember Ice Plants
Blue Mohawk Grass
Urge to Splurge Euphorbias
Sweet Summer Love Clematis
White Potentilla shrubs
Purple Lilacs
Emerald Green Arborvitae
By combining flowering perennials with structural shrubs and ornamental grasses, we created a landscape that evolves throughout the season while remaining manageable for the homeowner.
The result? A vibrant, layered garden that adds color, movement, and curb appeal to the entire property.
2. The Chocolay Cheer Up — Protecting a Mature Apple Tree
Sometimes the best landscaping projects solve problems while improving aesthetics. That was exactly the goal of The Chocolay Cheer Up.
The client had a beautiful mature apple tree that was being damaged by their dogs digging around the base of the trunk, exposing roots and stressing the tree.
Our solution was simple but effective.
We built a circular landscape border around the tree, adding two inches of natural hardwood mulch to create a clean, defined planting area that protects the root system while making the tree a focal point in the backyard.
In addition, we fully renovated two garden beds that wrapped around the front of the home. Rather than removing all existing plants, we worked with the existing vegetation and introduced 32 new perennials to enhance the space. We had to be very particular when sourcing plants for this project due to the acidic soil and the total amount of direct sunlight.
New additions included:
Lemon Meringue False Indigo
Purple Lavender
Adagio Maiden Grass
Autumn Joy Sedum
Whipped Cream Pinks
Pink Knock Out Rose Tree
The final result brought balance to the entire yard while protecting one of the landscape’s most valuable features.
3. Lakewood Love — Modernizing Old Garden Beds
The Lakewood Love project focused on turning outdated garden spaces into a clean, modern landscape feature.
One of the garden beds had been dominated by an old swing set surrounded by deteriorating rubber mulch. After clearing the mulch and all of the existing vegetation, we reshaped the bed and brought the soil back to level.
From there we:
Installed premium landscaping fabric
Added premium steel garden edging that will naturally patina over time and last 50+ years
Added a quartz mix decorative rock
Designed a shrub-focused planting layout
We introduced several hardy shrubs and ornamental plants suited for the Upper Peninsula:
Eastern Snowball Bushes
Endless Summer Hydrangeas
Lynwood Gold Forsythia Shrubs
Variegated Liriope
This project created a polished, low-maintenance landscape while dramatically improving the visual appeal of the property.
